GCSE Media Studies
Course Overview
The Eduqas GCSE Media Studies course invites students to explore how the media shapes the world around us. Through studying a wide range of media forms - including advertising, magazines, film marketing, television, music videos, newspapers, radio and video games - students learn how meanings are created and how media influences audiences and society.
The course blends analytical thinking with creative production, enabling learners to become both critical consumers and confident creators of media. Students develop skills such as analysis, research, idea building, digital production and post-production while exploring representation, industry processes and audience engagement. Practical work forms 30% of the qualification, giving students the opportunity to respond to a real brief and create their own media product using professional conventions.
Media Studies is an engaging, contemporary and relevant GCSE that suits students who enjoy analysing the world around them, thinking creatively and working with digital tools, while also providing a strong foundation for further study. Those students that already enjoy constructing analytical written pieces in English are well suited to Media Studies
