Our Curriculum

At Bullers Wood School for Boys we believe every boy can and will succeed. Our curriculum is broad, ambitious and knowledge-rich, designed so that boys leave us with meaningful qualifications, the confidence to think hard, and the character to contribute to their community. Teaching across the school follows the Trust’s shared principles, with a strong emphasis on clear modelling, scaffolding, regular retrieval practice and lessons that keep boys thinking hard but supported.

Our curriculum is designed so that every boy, whatever his starting point:

  • Secures the strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and oracy that unlock every other subject and are a passport to future opportunities.
  • Experiences a broad and balanced Key Stage 3 that builds directly on primary learning, keeps momentum through the transition to secondary school and lets boys discover where their talents lie before they choose options.
  • Masters the core concepts of each discipline through carefully sequenced teaching, regular retrieval and deliberate practice, rather than racing through content.
  • Chooses a Key Stage 4 pathway that combines a strong academic core with genuine choice, including high-quality vocational and applied routes.
  • Develops the applied knowledge needed for a changing world: digital and media literacy, an understanding of AI, financial capability, and awareness of climate and sustainability.
  • Sees himself reflected in what he studies, and encounters a wide range of perspectives that broaden his horizons.
  • Leaves as a healthy, happy, resilient and successful young man, ready for the next stage of education, training or employment.
