Learning for life
What students learn this year:
Year 7 lays the foundations for a positive transition to secondary school. Students begin with the "You Are Awesome" programme, building self-belief, resilience and a growth mindset, before moving on to friendship, empathy and how to recognise and prevent bullying. In the spring they explore families in all their forms, changing relationships and the physical and emotional changes of puberty, including body awareness and keeping safe. The summer term introduces healthy relationships and an age-appropriate introduction to consent, and finishes with a first look at careers and money.
This year delivers the statutory Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education (RSHE) content set out by the Department for Education, including families, respectful relationships, changing adolescent bodies and mental wellbeing. It also supports the school's safeguarding duties, the Equality Act 2010 through work on stereotypes and diversity, and the Gatsby Benchmarks for careers education through early careers and financial-education lessons.
