Support the Appeal by Public Inquiry

Bullers Wood School for Boys

Urgent! – Support the Appeal by Public Inquiry by submitting your comments by 6th August 2018

As some of you may know, there will be an appeal via public enquiry against Bromley Council’s refusal to grant planning permission for Bullers Wood School for Boys at St Hugh’s Playing Fields, Bickley. This is land identified in the draft Local Plan for educational use.

We want all our parents, prospective parents and supporters to support the appeal.  Whilst the Inspector will determine the appeal on its planning merits, your comments will help to demonstrate that there is strong local support for the School.

You only have until the 6th August to comment – all correspondence must be received by the Planning Inspectorate no later than this date.

Please explain in your own words why Bromley was wrong to refuse planning permission. Your letters should be individual and personalised as these carry more weight than petitions or pro-forma (copied, cut and pasted), responses.

The content of your communication should stress:

  • Why you need this school
  • Why Bromley needs this school (shortage of secondary school places)
  • Your commitment to sustainable travel – i.e. your son walking or travelling to and from school by public transport
  • What the impact will be on you, your son and your family if the appeal is unsuccessful

  • Your comments should focus on the planning merits and be factual/evidence-based, wherever possible.

Although the main issue will be highways impact and safety, emphasising the need and your commitment to sustainable travel will help the case overall.

There is some Government guidance here on how to comment on an appeal – https://www.gov.uk/appeal-planning-decision/comment-on-an-appeal  or https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/taking-part–a-planning-listed-building-or-enforcement-appeal

You will be able to attend the Inquiry and, at the Inspector’s discretion, give your views. If you cannot attend or wish someone else to attend on your behalf you may give your views in writing.

All comments made at the planning application stage, have now been forwarded to the Planning Inspector so if you wish to make comments or modify your previous representation, you can do this online at https://acp.planninginspectorate.gov.uk.

You can also send written comments to: The Inspector, c/o The Planning Inspectorate, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6PN. Alternatively, you can email helen.skinner@pins.gsi.gov.uk

You must quote the address of the proposal: St Hugh’s Playing Fields, Bickley Road, Bickley, Bromley – and quote APP/G5180/W/18/3203724 in all correspondence
